A man managed to cover a distance of thousands of miles walking around the countries in Asia with the help of Android phones and Google Maps.
This trip was made by Sergeant Winston Fiore, a U.S. marine who had a special mission to raise funds for
the International Children's Surgical Foundation, a foundation that provides free plastic surgery to children with cleft lips in developing countries.
For this humanitarian mission he calls' Smile Trek then Fiore was willing to walk across several countries such as Brunei, China, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, since last October.
Fiore who did not know the road was trying to rely on a variety of equipment and maps. But he admitted that he greatly helped with Google Maps showing the roads and areas where he believes will not find a physical map.
"Walking directions in Google Maps is very important in my journey. Direction is accurate and efficient, it is necessary to show the shortest route when you walk 20-25 miles per day," said Fiore recounts.
In addition to Google Maps, as quoted bheNET from Mashable, Wednesday (21/11/2012), the sergeant also use Google Latitude, Google Translate MyTracks and is accessed via its Android phones.
Fiore and ultimately successful mission to complete his journey, managed to raise up to $ 65 thousand, or approximately USD 617 million for a free cleft lip surgery through the foundation.
